Maldives registers 43 pct increase in fish exports in H1 2025
Aug 04, 2025
Male [Maldives], August 4: The Maldives has registered a 43 percent increase in fish export in the first half of 2025 compared with the same period in 2024, state-run PSM News reported on Sunday, quoting data from the Maldives Monetary Authority.
By the end of June, fish exports had reached 74.5 million U.S. dollars, up from 52 million dollars a year earlier, with the surge being chiefly driven by expanded export volumes, PSM said.
Between January and June, the nation exported over 44,877 metric tonnes of fish, compared with about 26,850 metric tonnes in the same period last year, which reflects intensified domestic fishing activity across the country, PSM said.
Against this backdrop, the Maldives has advanced a strategic vision aimed at fortifying the fisheries sector's contribution to national income and broader economic resilience.
