Kremlin accuses West of unwillingness to negotiate

Moscow [Russia], February 20: Russia has accused the West of a being unwilling tonegotiate after almost a year of its war against Ukraine.
The West lacks openness to peace initiatives, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a TV interview on Sunday, the state news agency TASS reported.
For this reason, Peskov said, the West would probably not support a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and USPresident Joe Biden. Russian troops invaded the neighbouring country on February 24, 2022.
From the point of view of Ukraine, which is under attack, as well as Western countries, there is no basis for negotiations because Russiais sticking to its conquests in Ukraine and wants to topple the leadership in Kiev.
Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, a close ally of Putin, hasalready suggested a meeting between the presidents of Russia and the US on several occasions. He suggested the Belarusian capital Minsk as the venue, where a peace plan was negotiated in 2015 under Franco-German mediation that has long since failed.
On Tuesday, Putin plans to address the nation in Moscow. The Kremlinleader will speak about the "special military operation" and its effects, Peskov announced.
The term war is still avoided in Russia.
Biden is expected to speak the same day in Poland's capital Warsaw.
