Istanbul [Turkiye], October 12: Eleven people were killed and 27 others injured on Sunday when a coach collided with a tow truck in Manisa in western Turkiye, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.
The bus was travelling from Bursa to Izmir, Anadolu reported. The Manisa provincial administration said an accident report was received shortly after 11 am (0800 GMT) near the Akhisar motorway junction. Rescue workers were subsequently dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to hospital.
In a post on the platform X, Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi referred to the victims as "our citizens." It is not currently known whether all those involved were Turkish nationals or whether any foreign nationals were among the passengers.
It is not yet known exactly how the accident occurred. The governor of Manisa, Vahdettin Özkan, said work at the scene of the accident was continuing under the coordination of the public prosecutor's office.
"We are experiencing in a painful way just how vital it is to strictly adhere to traffic rules," Özkan said.
