Washington [US], October 7: Ms. Karin Immergut, US District Court Judge in Oregon state, has banned President Donald Trump's administration from sending National Guard from any state to Portland city (Oregon state).
According to Reuters yesterday (October 6), Ms. Immergut expressed dissatisfaction with the government's apparent attempt to circumvent the court order. Specifically, Judge Immergut initially banned the White House from sending the Oregon National Guard to Portland, saying the government's claim that Portland was experiencing unrest and violent protests was not true. The Trump administration responded by sending National Guard troops from another state, California, to Portland on October 5.
Oregon and California leaders have criticized the White House 's decision . During a tense hearing on October 5, Judge Immergut repeatedly asked the attorney representing the US Department of Justice, Eric Hamilton, to answer the core of the issue. "Why is the dispatch of the National Guard from California not a violation of the decision I issued yesterday? Is the defendant (the US government) just evading my order?", Ms. Immergut said, then issued an order prohibiting the government from sending the Guard to Portland, regardless of the state, effective until October 19. The White House on October 5 criticized Ms. Immergut's ruling and defended the decision to deploy the National Guard .
